Mr Barnett is a former baseball superstar, someone who does not know how to cook a hamburger and one of the greatest English teachers (possibly) ever. He’s witnessed car heists and has claimed he used to free climb large marine mammals – but can he handle DAA? This is an exclusive interview where Mr Barnett gives us more insight into his life.

Which schools were you at previously?
I previously worked at Chaparral High School (a large public school in US just South of Denver, Colorado), but before here I worked at Seoul International School in South Korea.

What is your Nationality?
I am from The US of A, more specifically Colorado.

Did you always want to become a teacher?
I had actually aspired to become Superman, then a professional athlete, then a broadcaster of professional athletes, and then a coach – which led to teaching.

Where did you study?
I studied and got an undergrad at a school in Nebraska (where I received a baseball scholarship) then studied my masters at University of Colorado.

How do you like Dubai so far?
I like it – things are easy as you do not need to know another language, which is good for me. There is also lots of good food.

What is your craziest teaching experience?
Oh man, that’s a great question. I think the time where I just thought to myself, “what in the world?” is when a student, who had stolen another teacher’s keys for their car, had got up out of class and walked to the parking lot. He took the teacher’s car and drove off – which essentially led to a police chase.

What are your hobbies?
I like being active – I love baseball. I watch baseball, I used to play softball in Korea but haven’t found a league here yet. I play basketball here with my kids.

Are you going to coach softball at DAA?
Yes, I am the head Varsity baseball coach here.

The DAA community is proud to welcome Mr. Barnett to our family.
